Sensitivity

You have just restored (repaired) your/or your child’s teeth with dental fillings. Dental fillings are placed after the decay is removed from the tooth.

Inside each tooth there’s a nerve, artery and vein. The nerve is what gives the tooth its feelings.

Depending on how close the decay is to the nerve (& the health of the nerve) will determine whether or not the restored tooth will be sensitive to hot or cold.

Medicines are placed under the filling to help the nerve. In most cases the sensitivity will go away. However, in some instances the sensitivity will not go away & gets worse & the tooth will require further treatment. In these cases please call.

Crown

Your mouth has a crown which will last depending on how you care for your teeth. You need to have regular visits to the dentist for cleanings (a minimum of 2 per year). Also you need to brush & floss correctly.

Your crown has an edge that is under the gums. This edge (or margin) needs to be cleaned as mentioned above. If not your crown will fail.

Fixed Bridge

Your mouth now has a fixed bridge to replace missing teeth. How long your replacement will last will depend on your dental care. You need to have regular visits to the dentist for cleanings (a minimum of 2 per year). Also you need to brush & floss correctly.

Your bridge has an “edge” that is under the gums. This edge (or margin) needs to be cleaned as mentioned above. Also, regular cleanings are needed by the dentist to remove bacteria and tartar that does not come off with tooth brushing & flossing.

You will also need to clean under the replacement tooth (pontic) using floss threader or super floss.

Root Canal

When nerve treatment is performed your tooth will “dry out” because along with the nerve, the blood & water have also been removed. Until your tooth receives a post build-up and a permanent crown your tooth is susceptible to fracture.

The post build-up and crown are not included with the price of the nerve treatment (root canal). They are separate fees.

If medication were given please take as prescribed. You have a temporary filling that will be replaced with a permanent post build-up & a crown in the near future. While your temporary filling is in place avoid chewing hard & sticky foods like popcorn & gum.

If your temporary filling comes out please come in immediately to have it replaced.
