Receiving Botox at our Lawndale Practice
When you visit Lawn Dental Center in Chicago, you will receive the personal attention you deserve. We offer a calm and relaxing environment to provide you with a positive experience throughout your treatment.
An anesthetic cream is placed on your skin prior to administering the Botox® injections. Typically, a small amount (1-2 cc’s) of Botox® is injected into each wrinkle and ice is applied once treatment is complete. Botox® relaxes the facial muscles by blocking the impulses from the nerve. The result is smoother skin that lasts up to six months, after which we invite our patients to return for a maintenance treatment.
Optimizing your Recovery
There is very little downtime after receiving treatment with Botox. Patients usually return to their normal daily activities immediately after the procedure.
You will be instructed not to lay down for a period of time after treatment and given other important information regarding after-care. Following our post-procedure instructions are important to avoid any side-effects.
It is imperative that patients who have undergone Botox treatment should avoid laying down flat, engaging in vigorous physical activities, or applying cosmetics for a minimum of four hours after the injections. Also, avoid rubbing or massaging the injected area for at least 24 hours. Contact us at Lawn Dental Center to see if Botox is the right solution for you!

How Can Botox Help Treat My Teeth Grinding?
Teeth grinding is also know as Bruxism. During an intensely stressful period, grinding teeth, debilitating earaches, and lockjaw may occur. Botox® injections are sometimes an effective and painless way to alleviate tension in the temporomandibular joint, reducing jaw pain, headaches, and suffering.
Here are several of the major benefits Botox® offers to treat teeth grinding:
- Elimination of headaches caused by nighttime grinding.
- Minimization of lockjaw.
- Reduced discomfort when using the jaw.
- Reduced shoulder and neck pain.
- Substantially reduced jaw tension.
How does Botox® work?
The temporomandibular joint is located on both sides of the head where the skull adjoins the jawbone. This joint is constantly being used for a variety of daily activities, such as chewing, biting, speaking, and swallowing. The most prominent causes of TMJ are jaw displacement and stress-related involuntary jaw movements. Botox® expediently alleviates temporomandibular tension by relaxing the jaw muscles, thus preventing unconscious jaw movement and ending grinding-related headaches.
One of the major advantages of Botox® is that normal functions such as speaking, swallowing, and biting are left unaffected. The only major change is the reduction in pain and discomfort. In addition, controlling TMJ can also prevent serious dental problems from occurring later. TMJ, if left untreated, can contribute to tooth decay, gum disease, and the loosening of teeth.
